Minutes: January 2015

  1. Kim called the meeting to order at 6pm
  2. Membership report – Rich reported membership steady at 106
  3. Administrative volunteers are needed:
    1. Newsletter researchers still needed for north and south
  4. Dining Out – January was dinner and a movie. Upcoming? 1/22 Robert Cheeks will be at Azteca II
  5. Pot luck – Next pot luck is 1/17/15. Trish suggested it might be fun to do themed pot luck in the future.
  6. Outreach Report – Kim reviewed the following events:
    1. 1/22 Robert Cheeks at Sunseed book signing and Azteca II
    2. 1/24 Will Tuttle presentation – Florida Eye
    3. 1/25 Picnic & Ice Cream Social at McClarty Park. Sunseed donated the ice cream
    4. 1/28 CBL food prep or a movie Cowspiracy?
    5. 1/31 Peaceable Kingdom at CBL – Courtnie will host with Erin
    6. 1/31 Prepare lunch at Sharing Center
    7. 2/11 Food prep – CBL
    8. 2/21 Prepare lunch at Sharing Center
    9. 2/25 Food prep – vegan chili –
    10. 2/28 Titusville Rotary Chili Cook-off – Erin & Trish

    1. Community Garden – 8 members have signed up. Palettes have been donated The gardening group will meet to organize and build raised beds and determine a schedule for managing the garden
    2. Vegfest – Hours will be 11 am to 5 pm. Discussion of possible speakers (George, Robert, Ellen Jaffe Jones, John, Susie), Children’s area (Jackie H has volunteered), potential vendors (the core group will develop a list), Entertainment (music, yoga demos, Zumba) There was also a discussion of whether or not to have animals at the event. The venue is dog friendly. The group feels we should have an animal or animals if they are from a local animal sanctuary that has no involvement in any animal product whatsoever.

ACTION ITEMS FOR VEGFEST:

  1. Develop master schedule of speakers, entertainers and demonstrations
  2. Brainstorm potential vendors
  3. Put together sponsorship opportunities and vendor packets
  4. Develop children’s activities and schedule
  5. Coordinate volunteers for the putting together the event, setting it up, during event and clean up
  6. Advertising/PR
